Rolex Explorer 14270 36mm – Rare Blackout Dial – Excellent Conditions
The Rolex Explorer, officially introduced in the catalog in 1953, is one of the most long-lived and iconic models of the Swiss fashion house.
Expressly conceived and designed to be the "professional" flagship model for land missions, already in the very first periods of production it will be equipped to Sir Edmund Hillary and Tenzing Norgay for one of the most important missions of the last century: the climbing of Mount Everest, which took place on May 29, 1953.
With the passing of the years and the numerous versions of the iconic model produced, the reference 14270 Blackout turns out to be one of the most sought-after in the world of collectors. Called "Blackout" precisely because of the presence inside the hour markers "3", "6", and "9" of a black lacquer which makes the dial more "stealth" and less flashy. The rarity of this version is due precisely to the very short production (1989/1991) found only on serial E (high) and serial X (low).
