Among the most notable missions were the pioneering ones by the United States Navy, which tested underwater habitats in the heart of the ocean. At the same time, deep-sea divers, such as those from the French company Compagnie Maritime d'Expertise (known as Comex), who were already working with Rolex, began to demand watches with superior water resistance needed for complex maritime operations, such as the maintenance of underwater drilling rigs, which tend to be located at extraordinary depths.

In this context, Rolex, with the support of these leading organizations in the field, began to develop watches that could withstand deep saturation dives and the extreme conditions of underwater habitats, where a pressurized mixture of helium and oxygen was used for breathing. The name chosen for the new model was “Sea-Dweller”, which in Italian means “Dweller of the Sea”, a clear reference to the aquanauts involved in the development of the model, who attempted to “inhabit” the depths of the sea. Only after obtaining positive results during the missions with partners, Rolex decided to present the model globally.

In the first production phase of the model, Rolex did not use an exclusive case, but used a “classic” Submariner case, probably that of the references 5513/5514. This case, thinner than the subsequent one (called “thick”), is known by collectors as the “thin case” or, in Italian, “cassa bassa”.

This rare and preserved example features both the “low case” and the double red writing (MK2 dial) and, furthermore, by turning the watch on its side, another peculiarity can be appreciated: the correct “super doomed” glass, a feature very dear to enthusiasts of the model and an exclusive, once again, of the first productions (the subsequent glass will be less domed).

This Rolex Sea-Dweller second pulse reference 1665 boasts the following features:

Thin Case

“Patent Pending” Bracelet

MK2 Dial Double Red Writing

Excellent conditions

This second hand vintage watch Rolex Sea-Dweller reference 1665 it is on sale at our DEANGELIS Boutique in Milan

[28,182

0":"post-9289","1":"product","2":"type-product","3":"status-publish","4":"has-post-thumbnail","6":"product_cat-orologi","7":"product_cat-shop","8":"pa_case-material-stainless-steel-thin-case","9":"pa_case-size-40-mm","10":"pa_glass-plexiglass-domed","11":"pa_model-sea-dweller-double-red-writing","12":"pa_movement-mechanical-automatic","13":"pa_reference-179","14":"pa_strap-bracelet-material-stainless-steel-oyster-folded-bracelet-patent-pendig","15":"pa_year-2-276","17":"first","18":"instock","19":"purchasable","20":"product-type-simple
["GET
